Culture will drive Performance:
In my experience most CEO’s and senior leaders will buy into the statement;
“Leadership drives Culture, and Culture drives Performance”
Sadly that’s where it stops – at the buy in!
When introducing this concept to organisations the focus will go straight to the Performance,
by-passing the all important Culture stage. Sure Performance and Performance improvement is a given,
and it isn’t going to happen until Leaders realise that it is their Culture Impact or let’s say “footprint” that will determine the Culture.
Research has shown that Leadership has the biggest impact on Culture (40%) and in my view if leaders aren’t thinking Culture then they are not leading!
This is just one more reason why many change programmes fail: If you aren’t thinking culture you are “doing”, and that isn’t what leadership is about.
